On Tuesday, 29 August, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman met with well-known architect and infrastructure expert Fernando Romero, representing the family of Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim. His visit to Ukraine has been organized by Ivan Ogilchyn, Managing Partner at Octagonal Corporation (USA).
Prime Minister Groysman and Mr. Romero discussed Ukraine’s investment opportunities and the overall growth potential of their two countries. They noted that the Ukraine / EU Association Agreement offers great potential for Ukraine’s growth in the years ahead – prior to signing the North American Free Trade Agreement in 1994, Mexico was in similar conditions to Ukraine today; since then, its GDP has more than doubled.
Mr. Romero and the Prime Minister also explored the importance of ensuring that the architecture of a country’s infrastructure reflects the identity of the people. They agreed to seek projects, especially in cities, that would provide the world with a modern view of Ukraine in the 21st century.
While in Ukraine, Mr. Romero is discussing the development of Gostomel Airport outside of Kyiv, and potential joint projects with Antonov State Aircraft Company. One of Mr. Romero’s more notable architectural projects includes the new Mexico City International Airport.
Fernando Romero, Hon. FAIA, is recognized as one of the leading architects of his generation. He was named a Global Leader of Tomorrow at the World Economic Forum in 2002, one of the 50 Most Influential Designers by Fast Company in 2012 and became an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in 2013.
“It is a great privilege to have Fernando Romero in Ukraine. We are pleased to have facilitated his meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss various investment opportunities”, said Daniel Bilak, Chief Investment Adviser to the Prime Minister and Director of UkraineInvest.
