Ukraine and Hungary enjoy booming economic ties as bilateral trade reaches EUR 4 billion.

Bilateral political tensions between Ukraine and Hungary have made the headlines in recent months, but while the media focuses on the Hungarian minority in Ukraine’s Carpathian Mountain region, trade between the two countries is continues to grow. “Ukraine is our largest neighbor and bilateral trade totaled EUR 4 billion in 2018, which is greater than the volume of trade between Hungary and Russia,” commented Hungarian Ambassador to Ukraine Istvan Ijgyarto in late March. In order to bolster trade further, Hungary is currently engaged in a number of infrastructure projects including the construction of a highway leading up to the Ukrainian border and the repair of an existing route.
