Ukraine sees 250% growth of tourism industry contributions to state budget in 2018

Ukraine’s tourism industry contributed UAH 4.2 billion to the national budget in 2018, representing a year-on-year increase of approximately 250%. Meanwhile, the sector saw a five-fold increase in work places during the past year, according to Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Trade Степан Кубів. These figures will create further momentum for the development of what remains the country’s largely untapped tourism potential. In recent months, government officials in Kyiv have identified tourism as one of the key economic growth areas for the coming five years. The tourism industry currently generates around 1.5% of Ukraine’s GDP, whereas the figure in many leading tourism destination nations is closer to 10%.
