Ukrainian Azov Sea resort Berdyansk expects record-breaking tourist season.

Ukraine’s Azov Sea resort city Berdyansk is preparing to welcome 1.5 million tourists during the 2019 summer season, according to Berdyansk Mayor Volodymyr Chepourniy. This total represents an approximately 600% increase on the number of visitors the city received in 2015, illustrating the surge in domestic tourism to southern Ukrainian resorts since the Russian seizure of Crimea five years ago. Ukraine’s largest Black Sea resort city, Odesa, has also witnessed spectacular growth in tourist numbers since 2014, while other resort areas along the country’s Black Sea and Azov Sea coastlines have benefitted similarly as Ukrainians look for alternatives to traditional holiday favorite Crimea.
